Lily Ponds Walk with 2 old chooks and one slightly younger.

Saturday morning 8am, we set off for the 20klm walk to Lily Ponds above Katherine Gorge. Armed only with water, food and enthusiasm, we headed off into the unknown...half of it was unknown to us.

The weather was perfect, cool breeze and overcast skies

Took us four and a half hours to get there because we kept stopping to photograph

From this sign we still had 2klm to go over what was graded as difficult terrain....piece of cake !

These water holes are where the Lilllies are and it was very pretty

Lots of weird and wonderful things growing on and in the water

Now we start to climb again, by this stage it was getting very hot and muggy.

Grass...i thought it looked pretty.

Nearly there

One more mountain to climb....come on girls you can do it !

View from the top looking up the Gorge towards Smitt Rock

Now the fun part, going down, lots of loose rocks

Mucking around with Anna..Nikon versus Leica

This was our reward

A shower under the waterfall and a swim

and lunch on the rocks, a perfect day with lovely company.

Drinks at Sunset, Katherine Gorge

Flying Foxes by the thousands in the picnic area
It's a bit of a climb to the lookout but it's steps all the way up and hand rails
and little solar lights so you can see on the way back down, thoughtful...better than using ones mobile phone to light the way.
Almost at the top, by this point the thighs are burning
The view is worth everything.
Nibbles and excellent wine are the reward, but you have to carry it up there or in my case...my friends carried it.
An excellent drop of Tasmanian wine.
Found this crossing the road on our way back to town, after many photos he continued on his way, banded tree snake ?
