VIKINGS EVERYWHERE

Mia has been studying the Vikings in class and today they showed the rest of the school what they have been doing. The viking boat was built by Mr Eddie from wood and he did an amazing job.The kids made the sheilds for the side
and they made their helmets and Mr Eddie the axe's
This is Mia, she worked hard on her project for weeks and i was very proud of her
Tonight was the Boat burning ceremony. As you can see Alf, Karin is missing you.
Iain, Ross and Rab waiting for the firies to turn up.
The lady of the hour, the very hard working Mrs Sutherland, Mias teacher.
It was sad to see the beautiful boat go up in flames. It was a good night and good to see the hard work the kids have done on this project.

DOUBLE HELIX

Recently the two Mia's spent an afternoon with the Double Helix Club from Darwin CSIRO. They had a great time doing all science related things.
They mixed bi carb with vinegar to make a small container fly into the air
and they filled a bottle with water, placed it on the pipe and then using a bike pump filled it with air until it blasted into the sky and water went everywhere. Good fun and the guys from Darwin put on a great variety of activities for the kids.
CJ and Leanne if you are reading we hope you are having a great time in America.

TEA TOWELS

Last night Mia and i went to the Tea Towel exhibition at the council chambers in honor of international women's day. Above is our friend Lee with her creation and below is Mia with 2 made by Poppy Smalios. We have some talented women in town and it was a lovely way to spend an hour on a rainy night.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY or in our case Katherine

What could be better than picking up rubbish on a Sunday morning ? staying in bed and reading my book for one but alas the River Rats went down to the river and spent over 2 hours picking up a shameful amount of rubbish. We picked up all around the old railway bridge over and under, the rubbish mainly consisting of green cans.
Suzanne seems to always have fun. It was an overcast day and very humid only made bearable because the sun wasn't shining. The kids were good little workers and we only occasionally heard a " eewww what's that ? " they did get excited when they would find the rare coke can in amongst the sea of green cans.We kept the cans separate so they can be recycled, the VB company will go broke if the drinkers in Katherine ever stop drinking .
At the end of nearly 4 hours we were all hot and tired so it was time for a cold swim at the pool and a free lunch put on by the council.

HOME FOR THE WEEKEND

This is us eating at the Noodle House on Mitchell st in Darwin last Saturday night with friend Anna and her children Tara, Sam and Jesse....Sam's friend. We had a lovely meal in great company.

Our baby boy flew in on the Friday afternoon to play football with the Big River Hawk's.

They lost but for a young team finishing their first year in the Darwin comp, they were very impressive. A few things happened on the day which had they not happened they most likely would have won the match but Que Sera Sera.

Riley flew out again on Sunday morning and although it was a short visit, it was great to see him...he looks well and happy. He will return early April so not long to go. Anna bought a new car while in Darwin, a lovely Subaru and i jokingly said to Mia that maybe we should buy a new car, no sooner were the words out of my mouth when my car started screeching at me and telling me that my engine was over heating ! i worked it out later and realised that i hadn't checked the water in it since well before going to New Zealand, I'm lucky i didn't blow it up. All is well now and she is purring along.

The weather at the game was hot and humid but kept at bay by a strong breeze, i don't know how they play in that heat.
