FOX GLACIER TO WANAKA

Rained again nearly all day today. I took a side road from Haast and drove out to the coast which dead ended at Jackson Bay, had to wait for these fellows to get off the bridge before we could drive across it. One thing i've noticed is that nearly every bridge i cross is a one lane bridge, rarely are there 2 lane bridges, these are really old bridges.

This is Jackson Bay........not what the guide book said but still very pretty and peaceful. I wonder if the people who write these books ever actually go to these places.

I had scenery like this all day, just gorgeous. I spent the day on very steep mountain roads that the little car was not happy with, lots of switchbacks, most of the day was spent doing 60klm an hour.

This is the road bridge over Thunder Creek, it's on a very steep narrow part of the road and you come around the bend to find all these cars parked everywhere, i had to stop and see what they were looking at.

it really did make a thundering sound. very impressive.

next i came across a sign saying Blue Pools, i remember Clare mentioning this so off i go to see what the fuss is about. The walk through the forest was very Lord of the Rings and just beautiful.

The water really was blue. i was not fussed about crossing thiis bridge, but a very funny German man behind me said ' is alright, zee things rarely fall down'

We waited while his wife crossed, he said ' she walk like zee baby elephant, best to stay here' he was right, the bridge swayed all over the place. I had tears from laughing.

It's a shame it was so cold because the water looked very inviting.
Found a bed in Wanaka right in town opposite the lake, has a real Noosa feel to it.
