MILFORD SOUND

I spent the day in Milford Sound. To get there you drive about 119kms along the Milford road. A journey this long in the Northern Territory would take me just on an hour but on this road it can take 2 hours because of the steepness and hair pin bends, it can take 3 hours if you stop as much as i did, i had too because the scenery along this road is breathtaking. There are lots of short walks to do through the rain forest but i saved them for the return drive. I set out at 8am and walked back into the motel room at 9pm, it doesn't get dark till after 10pm. After seeing Milford Sound, dare i say that the road leading to it around and over the mountains was more beautiful ? well it is in my opinion, not that i didn't enjoy my boat ride around the Sound, i did and highly recommend all of it.
I sat here on a log waiting for my turn on the boat cruise, very cold but lovely

i had company, this young man waddled along and sat next to me, he didn't say much but that was ok, we just stared at the view

My cruise ship was....well tiny, see the last photo. There were only 14 of us onboard which made it more personal, we had a great time.

I managed to get this photo before i had to cover the camera, the boat went closer and we got drenched.
This was the boat behind us, doing what we had just done.

These guys could care less and didn't even raise their heads when we passed.

We stopped in at the Discovery Centre which i didn't realise was part of my ticket, not all the boats offer this so we had the place to ourselves. It's a floating observatory and history/ science centre, very interesting. We were taken down these stairs to a room 3 metres under the water to observe life down there, wonderful.

The sun managed to stay around most of the day, at least it didn't rain.

Such a beautiful place. Discovered by a Welshman from the Hawkesbury river near Sydney.

This was my cruise ship, a bit smaller than the others, but i suspect we had a better ride.
If you go to Milford Sound you need to spend all day there to get a real feel for it, and don't go on a bus, you have to self drive. Lindsay you will love it and so will you Suzanne.

have just thought to check the blog. astonishing photos, you have obviously stretched a leg, they are all straight. dont forget to feed the ducks, the buggers were everywhere wherever we went. love milford sound, it looks like it belongs in another country, not just in an offshoot of queensland.
