Photo above is early morning fog and traffic on the Arno river near Florence.
We had a wonderful day today, sunshine nearly all day and the temp sat around 15...almost tropical ! this morning we boarded a tour bus and headed out on a tour of Tuscany, a quick tour but still enjoyable. Our fellow tourers consisted of a few Australians, from Brisbane, Melbourne and south of Sydney, Americans, Japanese and Italian. a great bunch and the Italian tour guide was wonderful, Sandra and driver Emilioni.. The countryside between Florence and Siena was what i hoped it would be, just like the books and beautiful. The photo below was taken while walking around Siena, this is part of our tour group. Siena was our first stop and it was here that we were handed over to a Sienese guide and taken all over the historic town, very hilly but incredibly beautiful...its hard to describe and i could have sat in the piazza all day just drinking coffee and watching the locals. From Siena we went to a hill top farm that over looked this stunning valley and the hill town of San Gimignano, Inspecting the Olive trees.
it was here that we sat down to a country Italian lunch complete with wine and this very thick wine that you dip a certain biscuit into then eat the biscuit....us Aussies found this out after we had sculled the stuff and were instantly drunk ! the lady said " no no you dip biscuit into wine not drink wine..eat slowly slowly...oops !!potent stuff. The food was delicious, the setting perfect and we could have just laid on the grass and had siesta afterwards. The merriment on the bus after this wonderful lunch was decidely noisier than earlier....i blame the wine, it was a lot of fun. The photo above was taken from the old fort at San Gimignano looking down the valley. We headed across the valley and climbed the hill to beautiful San Gimignano and spent an hour or more wandering the narrow ancient streets of this walled town, so beautiful. Next stop was Pisa and that leaning tower. My camera lens, the small one is playing up, its having a lot of trouble focusing which meant the photos at Pisa are not the best plus it was getting dark. I'm not sure what to do about the lens, if i can find a Sony shop i will take it in. Anyway Pisa was breathtaking, Mia was speechless. Riley got in line to climb the 300 steps winding up the tower but they were full and did not allow anymore up that day, he was disappointed. We did get a photo of our well traveled Katherine Times but again it wasnt a great photo, a bit blurry. The tour ended back in Florence at 7pm and we walked back to the hotel exhausted but content. Tomorrow we travel to ROMA !
