BELLISSIMO ROMA !

This picture is from Mia to Suzanne. Suzanne wanted us to try the roasted chestnuts and Mia kept reminding me whenever we saw them. They are ok. Mia said " they are alright, they tasted like mashed potato but harder and kinda had a peanut butter flavour. " Riley said they tasted like Nutella. 11 chestnuts for 5 euro.
Today we arrived in Roma/Rome via train from Florence, another early morning to catch the train at 8.30am but we were in Rome at 10am which was good. we took a wrong turn and ended walking about 2 miles looking for our hotel which was only 500yds from the station...we're tired ! the hotel is gorgeous and is in the piazza of the Santa Maria Maggiore, a beautiful huge church. We joined the hop off hop on tour and went exploring. The photo above was taken on some side steps leading down from the enormous Vittoriano in the Piazza Venezia.

Mia at the top of the steps of the Vittoriano which overlooks the Piazza Venezia.

View of some Roman ruins

The Vittoriano, a huge building housing items about the 1st and 2nd world war.

View from the bus of St Peter's. We will explore the Vatican tomorrow, very impressive sight.

Our first view of the Colosseum. a huge area around here just full of remains of the Roman Empire, its so fascinating and i cant wait to go inside tomorrow.

Afternoon snack of Lasagne and Crochettes {is that how you spell it ? } was eaten here at the Trevi Fountain. Beautiful, photos do not do it justice. Hundreds of people here. Mia is throwing a coin in over her shoulder the way the Italians do.

Riley throwing his coin in the Trevi.
there were so many people here. today is a public holiday in Italy so they were out in force. Tomorrow we will explore more, today was more of a recon. The weather is great, about 14 all day. The church bells of Santa Maria chime every half hour...it sounds great although they will turn them off when i'm ready to sleep, wont they ? it might get annoying at 3am.

yesterdays entry is below this one. Ciao from Roma.

Bruce's children mucking around in the hotel room.....we are going to get chucked out !

Hi again. I just wrote some, but don't know if it was wiped out or posted? We enjoy reading your blog and are amazed how much you see and experience! Great that the weather has improved. Where do you plan to be at Christmas?
Christine seems very busy trying to get everything done before they leave on Saturday. We have chosen our Christmas tree today - it's a very important business for me!
Have fun and good luck1 Alf & Karin

Thanks for the photo Mia. It's the smell of roasting chestnuts that is the best, but I liked them to eat as well. Brings back memories of the West End. Hot and still no rain down here! Hope this is not a sign of global warming ... cause we will all cook!
