NOTTINGHAM TO SCOTLAND

November 18th Wednesday
Today we left Nottingham in very cold and rainy conditions, got on the M1 and drove to Scotland ! Did it on a whim, eventually we drove out of the rain into patchy sunlight. We stopped on the border of England and Scotland and froze while taking photos, its colder up here. Tonight we're in a Travelodge hotel because its the same price as the YHA and although I wanted the Y so I could use their washing machine, this hotel is a lot better. We'll stay here 2 nights, its just a few miles from Edinburgh so tomorrow we'll go into Edinburgh and spend the day exploring and hopefully come across a laundromat. The sights we've seen today have been beautiful countryside with a few castles and lots of flooded rivers, lots of wind farms which are amazing sights, white sheep with black faces, black cows, huge crow like birds, a flock of birds over the M1 who were flying in formation in the shape of a ball and then what looked like a cricket bat shape..it was weird and wonderful and I nearly crashed watching them. I'm worn out from driving today. The driving itself is OK its the roads and the weird rules that exhaust me, the M1 was good but the smaller highways are full of bends, its like being on a race track and requires your full concentration ....which for me is exhausting !! hiring the car has been a good thing though because we've seen so much more than we would have if we had been travelling by bus or train. Right now the kids have the telly on and all I can hear is Scottish accents...i keep expecting to see Christine and Rab Sutherland when I look up ! Riley reckons it's like being surrounded by millions of Rab's....so funny. I might buy Riley a kilt. Thanks for the comments Eliza, Beth and Judy great to hear you are enjoying the blog. It takes about an hour to do each post...downloading photos from camera, selecting photos for blog, resizing photos for blog, writing blog which is hard because I am no writer as I'm sure you have all worked out already. I don't know what commas and full stops are....insert them yourselves ! Hahahaha. Anyway after proof reading it { because I detest spelling mistakes, let me know if there are any} I upload the photos and position them which can take awhile depending on how many photos I use, then I post it. If I'm doing 2 posts like tonight then I can be sitting here for ages, like now...so I will go and let you lot get ready for work, it's almost our bedtime 8.30pm on Wednesday night, 6am your time Thursday morning. P.S Bruce = I'm glad micro is earning his keep by being your buzzer, he's such a good dog.

Glad you are all cold over there - maybe you could send some of the rain over here to Katherine. We need it. Rain competition is still going - believe it is the longest it has ever run for.
To keep you updated - still no air conditioning! Is now in the fourth week! YOu wouldn't believe it - we should have had it, but there was a vital part missing from the system - the compressor! Unreal. Fingers crossed we will have it next week.
Keep on having fun and safe driving.

Hi guys - I have finally figured out how to do this. What do I have to include for you to not approve it?? Haha I reckon Riley would look great in a kilt - Mia - I love the photo of you being blown away - I am looking forward to feeling that cold wind after the heat here - but I'm sure that will only last about ten minutes - then I'll want to get back to the heat. I hope you have enjoyed our cold and windy home - it feels strange that you now know where I come from!
Cheers
Christine
