STRATFORD UPON AVON

Drove to Stratford Upon Avon today in cold wet conditions. We experienced our first 'delay' on the M1, bumper to bumper for ages, i didn't drive so much as rolled along, it was boring and a waste of a day but what can you do ? i did spot something funny with a car in front of us ' hey look that car has no driver ! ' the kids were stunned and finally realised the car was a left hand drive and what they thought was the passenger was actually the driver, that kept us amused for awhile. We finally arrived in Stratford along with 400 million other cars...grrrr. Ended up using the car park at the Holiday Inn and walking into town in drizzly rain but it was still nice. Stratford Upon Avon is the home of William Shakespeare and his presence is felt everywhere, Riley was full of knowledge because he has just studied William at school so it was interesting for him to see this place and he did declare that he really liked it. Unfortunately because of my penchant for not booking ahead, we couldn't find any accommodation, i thought there was a recession on ? so we have ended up on the out skirts of Swindon. This morning at 9am the temperature was 3 degrees. Tomorrow we will head back to Oxford and spend the day cleaning the car and getting our gear sorted because on Monday we have to hand the car back. Bed time now. Mia H ? Mia R will email you soon, hope the Judo went well.

Now that you know how wet and cold it is here, you will appreciate why Christine & Rab stayed in Australia!

When we are listening to the weather report we are always thinking of you. Did you see anything of York? I read the other day that they have a nice Christmas Market? Where will you go after Monday? It was lovely to see you here. Hope the weather will improve for you. At the moment it is nice in the South of Germany. Have you decided how you will travel to the continent? Over, under or through the water?
Alf took some good pictures of you at Glen Affric. Is there any way we can send them to you?

Good luck! Love Alf & Karin

Hi Guys,

So now you know why we all live in Aus. Beautiful country but way too cold and wet and miserable (but still get a little homesick at times after all these years) I loved Beatrice Potter's house as a child, I too used to look for Peter Rabbit. You are quite amazing to have driven around the UK as the conditions are quite attrocious. Don't know if you tackled the M5, my family over there call it the 'carpark' for fairly obvious reasons(and yes those roundabouts are shocking, my dad designed a number of those in the Somerset area as an engineer. David had to negotiate one and let out lots of expletives and demanded to know who designed such a stupid roundabout and no word of a lie I had to tell him it was my dad!!!
can't wait to hear about your European adventures. Hope you see lots of snow Viv.
